President briefs peace negotiators
President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday briefed many of
the members of the Government delegation, including ministers, who had
participated in the truce talks with the LTTE in February.

Govt's nomination for UN Secretary General post a unique honour,
says Dhanapala
The election of the eighth Secretary-General of the
United Nations has now been concluded in accordance with Article 97 of
the UN Charter. The General Assembly has, on the recommendation of the
Security Council, appointed Ban Ki-Moon, the Minister of Foreign Affairs
of the Republic of Korea to be Secretary-General with effect from
January 1, 2007, Jayantha Dhanapala said in a personal statement on the
election of the United Nations Secretary-General.
