President directs phone companies to issue braille bills
COLOMBO: President Mahinda Rajapaksa directed the
Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) to request
the seven public telephone network operators to provide bills in Braille
to their visually handicapped subscribers.
The braille format bill is an additional service for these
subscribers.
"It will help the visually impaired subscribers to read their bill
without any extra cost. The Braille format bill will be sent with the
regular bill and will contain the same detailed information," the
President said.
The President conveyed this message to commemorate the White Cane Day
which falls tomorrow.
The President said the White Cane is considered as a token of
freedom. Issuing a Braille bill shows that blind people should also
enjoy their freedom and equality of life in society. |
