SOCCER: Saunders Sports Club who were expecting to move a step
up in the ongoing Kit Premier League Soccer Championship table with a
win against Police SC failed to do so when the strong Police soccerites
held them to a goaless draw at the Police Park on Sunday.
Saunders SC who were placed on the fourth position had six points
against their name after the completion of three games faced this with
high hopes of getting closer to the leaders Negombo Youth SC, but with
only one point gained from this match could not fulfil their ambitions.
Saunders SC will now occupy the third slot behind the defending
champions Negombo Youth SC and Ratnam SC who are with nine points each.
Meanwhile in the other game played at Bogambara Stadium in Kandy
between Kandy York SC and Army SC too ended in a nil all draw. Both
these matches were from the Segment 'A'.
The three segment 'B' matches scheduled for Sunday could not be
completed and the game between Java Lane SC and Red Sun SC from Gampola
had to be postponed as the City League ground conditions were not
suitable for play on this day.
The segment 'B' game played at Kalutara saw Old Bens overcome
Kalutara Park SC two goals to nil at the Kalutara stadium. The other
match at Uyanwatte, between Matara SC and New Youngs SC from Wennappuwa
went in favour of the visitors with the score card reading 2 goals to
