Smooth flow of fuel to Jaffna

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation will take speedy action to fulfil the fuel requirements of the Jaffna peninsula by permanently hiring an oil tanker to transport fuel to Jaffna by the first week of October, Petroleum Corporation sources said.

President pays tribute to SWRD

President Mahinda Rajapaksa paid tribute to S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike at the 47th Bandaranaike Commemoration ceremony at Horagolla yesterday. President Rajapaksa paid floral tributes at the Samadhi to express his gratitude to former Prime Minister and SLFP founder, S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike, assassinated on September 25 at his Rosmead Place residence in Colombo.

Dengue on the rise

Dengue has arisen again in the country recording 32 deaths and 7,270 infected cases up to mid September. This is a considerable ascent when compared to last year, said Dr. Luxmi De Silva, National Cordinator of the Dengue Control Unit of the Health Ministry.

'Single-digit inflation by early next year'

Central Bank Governor tells American Chamber luncheon

Sri Lankan Government would bring down the inflation rate to a single digit by the early part of next year, Governor Central Bank Ajith N. Cabraal said. Speaking at the American Chamber luncheon in Colombo yesterday Cabraal said the rate would be lowered to 10 percent by the end of the year.
