Mary Britto in Sri Lanka
Women's Cricket : Mary Britto, former President of the
International Women's Cricket Council was in Sri Lanka over the weekend
and met up with Gwen Herat, President of WCASL and discussed the future
of women's cricket in Sri Lanka, after attending the England vs India
series in England.
She was also in Dubai and met Betti Timmer, Head of the ICC Women's
panel. Britto expressed her sadness at Megan Smith's (Executive Officer,
of ICC women) resigning at the end of the year. She had done a
tremendous load of work during her two year period.
Mary Britto who was President of IWCC from 1997 to 2005, gave way to
the ICC to take over women's cricket by dissolving the IWCC.
She played an important part to place women's cricket on par with
men, doing away with the gender issue, along with Secretary, Jean
Malthus at the International Women's conference in Pretoria, South
Africa in 2005. Gwen Herat represented Sri Lanka successfully at this
conference.
Britto will organise SL to play in Wellington where a large Sri
Lankan community lives towards end of 2007.
She has also launched a full biography of women's cricket from 1996
to date. |
