The Government of Sri Lanka responded militarily
because of a series of unprovoked attacks and bloody outrages
committed by the LTTE in various parts of the country. The Ceasefire
Agreement has been observed in the breach thereof by the LTTE and
that has frequently invited Government retaliation in self-defence.
