Programme to document assets of State institutions

COLOMBO: The Government has launched a programme to document and prepare an inventory of assets belonging to State Institutions and Government Ministries with the view to manage and put them to good use.

Director General of the Finance Department P.A. Abeysekara told the media that under this programme, State Institutions and Government Ministries Island wide will be subjected to a registration of assets owned such as technical equipment, machinery, vehicles, state-owned land and other state accessories to be included in an inventory, in accordance with Circular No 422 issued by the Finance Department..

The Director General explained that, under this programme what the Government hoped to achieve was a more accurate degree of management of State assets, which would allow an efficient transfer of assets from one region to another in times of emergency. The Director General also mentioned that the project was expected to be completed within three months.
