President briefs UNP delegation
COLOMBO: President Mahinda Rajapaksa briefed a top level
United National Party Parliamentarians led by the Party's Deputy Leader
Karu Jayasuriya on the situation in the North and East, last evening.
The meeting between President Rajapaksa and the UNP members took
place at the Temple Trees, where the current conflict situation in the
North and East was briefed by President Rajapaksa along with the video
clippings taken at the conflict areas. UNP Parliamentarians Karu
Jayasuriya, Milinda Moragoda, Prof. G.L. Peiris, Gamini Lokuge, M.H.
Mohammed and T. Maheswaran were present.
President explaining on the North and East situation to the UNPers
clearly said that the security forces were not engaged in a war, but
only defending themselves from the LTTE attacks.
The President strongly condemned the false propaganda carried out by
the LTTE claiming that the Air Force has targeted schoolchildren.
Defence Chief of Staff making his comments said that the Air Force
attack was aimed at a well-identified Tiger training camp. At the end of
the briefing the UNP Parliamentarians appreciated the President for
elaborating them on the situation. |
