A'Pura hospital employees reinstated on a Presidential decree

AnurAdhapura: The Ministry of Healthcare and Nutrition has reinstated 124 casual employees whose services were terminated from the Anurdhapura General Hospital previously on the instructions of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Just prior to the Anuradhapura General Hospital was taken over by the Central Government from the Provincial Council administration the services of these 124 casual employees had been terminated at the request of North Central Provincial Council administration.

These employees had staged a satyragraha campaign in front of the hospital and the victims had made appeals to Health Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and the President to intervene and give them redress.

President on hearing the plight of these employees had promised to take remedial action. Now the Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry on the instructions of the President has reinstated all 124 employees who had lost there jobs due to differences of opinion that erupted in the North Central Provincial administration.

Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva handed them the letters of appointment at a ceremony held at the Anuradhapura Nurses' Training School recently.

The Minister speaking at the ceremony said, all those employees who were reinstated today were indebted to President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the President, as promised issued directives to authorities concerned to reappoint them in the place where they worked earlier.

The Minister noted that some sections of the health sector employees were misguided by opportunist forces. Therefore the Minister requested the employees not to fall prey to these elements and to be guided by their own consciousness.

The Minister said various trade unions put up their posters and notices all over the places in the hospitals making it very ugly and said that this trend was seen only in Sri Lanka.

The Health Minister said to maintain a good environment in and around hospitals.

He intended to prohibit the pasting of posters in the hospital premises, instead earmark a separate area for the purpose in all hospitals islandwide.
