WATTALA: Police yesterday detected another lorry load of explosives including eight claymore mines believed to be transported from the uncleared area in the North for a major attack in Colombo, following the arrest of two suspicious persons who were loitering in the vicinity of the Wattala Police station, Police sources said.

This is the second lorry load of explosives detected by the Police recently following the one detected in the Karandeniya area on August 4.

While being interrogated by the Police, one suspect identified as Rajasinghe Kuhan, a 23 year old youth from Jaffna killed himself after swallowing a cyanide capsule, Police said.

The other suspect Thevarasa Sivapalan a resident from Kokuvil, Jaffna interrogated by the Police revealed that the lorry that they came in was parked near Ice factory in Mabole.

He was also admitted to the Ragama teaching hospital after Police found that he too had taken a cyanide capsule while accompanying the Police officers to the place where they had parked the lorry.

After searching the lorry with the assistance of the Bomb Disposal Unit, Police found a cache of explosives laden in a false bottom of the lorry.
