US proscription law an ass says New York Society for United Sri
Lankans
Walter Jayawardhana
UNITED STATES: The New York Society for United Sri Lankans in a
letter addressed to Mr. Evans Owens of the US Embassy in Colombo said if
the laws banning the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in the US
allow a front organization of the terrorists to teach Tamil students of
New York such doctrines as ethnic cleansing as correct the proscribing
law must be a real ass and a real hollow one.
The Society in a letter signed by its President Sumith De Silva
queried from Owens why the students in the sports meet were carrying the
atrocious Tiger flag of the most vicious Prabhakaran instead of a Lion
flag, a dharma charka of India or a Union Jack if the organizers did not
represent the terrorists and asked whether US embassies would have
tolerated if the flag of Al Queda was carried in front of the march
past.
He was replying to a reply published by the US embassy in Colombo in
the Daily News commenting on students carrying separatist flags of the
LTTE in a New York sports meet and those Tamil students to be taught on
a curriculum prepared in Kilinochchi. The following is the full text of
the letter:
"We were amazed to see the US embassy in Colombo Sri Lanka treating a
front organization of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in New York
with kid gloves.
Any Sri Lankan expatriate in New York understands that the so-called
sports meet that was reported in the Daily News was a bold step to
promote the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam among the expatriate Tamils
despite the fact that the LTTE is listed as a terrorist organization
under the State Department.
There would have been a different reaction from US embassies anywhere
if such a sports meet was held with the Al Queda flag being carried at
the front.
"If the organizers were not LTTE they would have given a Lion Flag, a
Union jack or India's Dharma Chakra to be carried in front of the march
past instead of the flag of the world's most ferocious terrorist
Velupillai Prabhakaran.
Carrying a flag of a putative state, on par with this nation's stars
and stripes would show not only what you are ready to tolerate and but
also what you would not dare even to investigate. We are glad to know
that at least your letter showed to the world that some US embassies
would defend such an action for reasons best known to themselves.
"You say that the LTTE is a banned organization under law.
That law becomes a real ass if any front organization is able to
hoist the flag of the banned organization, hold classes for the Tamil
children in New York on the Fascist and racist policies of the
organization, promote ethnic cleansing for a racist state, promote
suicide bombing etc. which are well known policies of the organization.
Under this proscribing law can you please tell us whether a single
person has ever been prosecuted for supporting or funding the LTTE ? As
far as we know there isn't a single individual in the US so far.
"As an individual who is receiving your salary from the US taxpayers
like us you should stop actively or passively supporting such policies.
The US may not be having a central education policy. Could you please
explain under what kind of law US kids could be allowed to be educated
in such inhuman uncivilized doctrines? Double talk and hairsplitting
arguments are also sure avenues to allow such brutal inhuman acts. Next
time you will be openly advocating teaching policies diametrically
opposed to the US constitution in some queer schools in New York".
