Forces hold camps amidst fierce LTTE attack

The Security Forces yesterday successfully repulsed an LTTE attack on the Muttur, Thopur, Kattaparichan, Selvanagar and Mahindapura camps, according to the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) which however stated that terrorist attacks launched since 1.30 a.m. yesterday caused severe damages to Muttur town and resulted in a large number of civilian casualties.

Tamils should demand that LTTE opens sluice - Sangaree

TULF leader V. Anandasangaree yesterday urged the Tamil community in Sri Lanka to in a single voice demand from the LTTE that it immediately opens the Mavilaru sluice gates to enable the poor peasants to salvage their crops and restore drinking water 15,000 families. "Acts of this nature bring disgrace to a community that had a good reputation all over the world," he said.

BoC recovers Rs. 1.5b in outstanding loans

Wide range of facilities for customers launched

The Bank of Ceylon (BoC) had been able to recover over Rs. 1.5 billion from their debtors within a short period. Chairman BoC, Udayasri Kariyawasam, said that when he took over the bank last year their customers had to pay over Rs. 6.6 billion for outstanding loans they had obtained from the Bank
