APRC to continue exploring political solution

COLOMBO: The All Party Representative Committee (APRC) scheduled to meet again next week will deliberate on formulating a political solution to the armed conflict, Constitutional affairs and National Integration Minister D.E.W. Gunasekera said.

The Minister said that the Committee will look into the views of its members from different political parties on a possible constitutional framework when it convenes next Tuesday. The meeting on August 8 will be the third meeting of the APRC which was inaugurated on July 11 under the chairmanship of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. In terms of the agenda agreed upon on July 20, the APRC will first identify the stakeholders of the process and the issues involved.

Discussing matters relating to power sharing and transitional arrangements constitute the second and third stages of the agenda.

Meanwhile, the Panel of Experts, the multi ethnic body of legal and constitutional experts responsible for facilitating a home grown solution to the conflict has called for representations from the public.
