Harshana, Jithmie maintain their superiority

Tennis: Reigning Men's national champion Harshana Godamanne and Women's national champion Jithmie Jayawickrama won the Men's and Women's Tennis singles titles respectively at the Colombo Tennis Championships which was concluded on Sunday at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association playing section.

The tournament came to an end with the Mixed Doubles final on Sunday was followed by the award ceremony. The tournament was an `A' Grade Ranking Tournament.

In the Men's singles final Harshana Godamanne was given a tough time by Amrith Rupasinghe, before the reigning Champion finally, winning the match 7/6,7/5.

In the women's singles Nilupul Gunasekara was pushed into runner-up position by Jithmie Jayawickrame in a three setter.

Jithmie lost the second set without offering much resistance at 1-6 but came back to win the third set and the match (6/1,1/6,6/0).

In the Mixed doubles final Rajeev Rajapakse/Nilupul Gunasekara faced stiff opposition from Sanka Athukorala/Thiyumi Abeysinghe, but Rajeev/Nilupul registered victory in straight sets 7/6, 6/4.

Meanwhile, Ravi Subramaniam worked well to win four Senior titles. Subramaniam bagged the over 35 singles and doubles and the over 45 singles and doubles titles.
