Maldivian President a keen spectator at First Test

Cricket: Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom was a keen spectator on the final day of the first cricket Test between Sri Lanka and South Africa at SSC grounds on Monday.

President Gayoom has congratulated the Sri Lanka cricket team and commended their performances in recent Test and ODI matches.

At the awards ceremony of the first Test, President Gayoom presented the Man of the match award to Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardena.

In a subsequent meeting with President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees on Monday night, President Gayoom has inquired about Sri Lanka's preparations for the forthcoming 10th South Asian Games.

He has expressed confidence that Sri Lanka would be able to host the most successful Games under President Rajapaksa's leadership.

Maldives is one of the eight countries that would compete at the 10th South Asian Games to be worked off in Sri Lanka from August 18 to 28.
