President telephones Indian PM

COLOMBO: President Mahinda Rajapaksa thanked Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for extending the support of the Indian Government in bringing down 324 Sri Lankans who were stranded in war-torn Lebanon.

Around 324 Lankans were airlifted by a special Indian aircraft from Cyprus last Sunday. Earlier, the Lankans who were stranded in Lebanon were brought from Beirut to Cyprus by an Indian Naval vessel prior to their flight from there to Colombo on last Sunday. President Rajapaksa also briefed the Indian Premier on the current situation in the country.
