Jana Sevana Housing programme in North achieves success
COLOMBO: In accordance with Mahinda Chinthana, the 'Jana
Sevana' housing development programme has been successfully implemented
in all districts of Northern Province during the first six months of
2006.
This housing development programme has been successfully implemented
in Vanni, Jaffna, Mannar and Kilinochchi districts during the first half
of the year 2006 and 618 housing units were completed during this
period.
It has been targeted to provide houses to 221 families during the
year 2006 under the Jana Sevana housing development programme and 86
housing units have already been completed under this programme. 280
families in Mannar district is targeted to provide housing facilities in
2006. 232 families are being provided new houses in the district.
In the year 2006 it has been targeted to provide housing facilities
to 153 families of Jaffna district under the Jana Sevana housing
programme in which 100 families were already provided with housing
facilities under this programme.
113 families of Kilinochchi district were targeted to provide housing
facilities under Jana Sevana housing programme in 2006 and 100 families
of the district have completed their houses by June 30th.
The programmes launched under the Jana Sevana thousand houses
programme, housing loan and assistance programme, and Sevana Piyasa
roofing sheets programme were successfully implemented during the last
six months of 2006 in all above districts.
The National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) has implemented
this housing development programme through its district offices.
Despite a conflict situation in Northern Sri Lanka, all communities
have successfully engaged in housing development activities during the
first six months of 2006 with the assistance of housing loan and other
assistance provided by the government.
The NHDA says that the householders in Jaffna, Vavuniya, Mannar and
Kilinochchi districts have also engaged in housing construction
activities like other parts of the Island with the government provided
finance and with the fullest participation of householder families.
In addition what ever financial difficulties faced by them, the
householder families were genuine to settle the instalments for their
loans received from the respective NHDA district offices. The NHDA
further says that, the instalment recoveries are in good progress, more
than 50% of the recoveries are indicated in these districts.
The housing development activities implemented in North also have
indicated much progress in similar to other parts of the Island during
the first six months of 2006 within the last decade says NHDA. |
