More buses for CTB depots in N-E

COLOMBO: The State bus service promotes building communal harmony among ethnic groups. It should be strengthened by the employees with dedication, said Minister of Co-operatives and Co-operative Development and Deputy Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils M. Najeeb Abdul Majeed.

He was speaking at a function held recently in Colombo to hand over buses to Muttur and Kinniya CTB bus depots.

These buses were deployed to ease the transport difficulties caused to the areas affected by the ethnic conflicts in the North and East, under the scheme initiated by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Under this project, three buses to Kinniya, two buses each to Kantalai and Muttur CTB depots were distributed on the initiative taken by Minister Majeed who handed over these buses to the Depot Superintendents at a special function held at the office of the Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Councils in Colombo.

Minister Majeed stressed the importance of providing an efficient bus service by the CTB and called upon the Depot Managers to identify most affected areas to deploy new buses, which he said was the President's programme under Mahinda Chinthana.

Minister Majeed assured that he would take all possible arrangements to obtain more buses to the various depots in the Trincomalee District to overcome the shortage of buses to meet the commuter-demand in the areas.
