Manel Mal Sathiya

Strict laws to recover Rs.25 b unpaid loans

 President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday declared that new laws would be passed to recover more than Rs.25 billion due from large-scale loan defaulters to State banks. Such monies will be channelled to the coffers for the country's development, President Rajapaksa said.

No Lankans affected in Lebanon

There has been no report of any Sri Lankans being affected by the situation in Lebanon, the Foreign Ministry said yesterday. The Ministry in consultation with the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment has kept round the clock watch on the situation and safety of Sri Lankans in Lebanon, it said in a release.

Faster system for brand new vehicle registration

The Motor Traffic Department will introduce a speedier system for the registration of brand new vehicles from August 1. Motor Traffic Commissioner B. Wijayaratne told the Daily News that the new system was aimed at expediting the present time-consuming registration process for brand new vehicles.
