True Heroes

White flag brown with time

Still dances with the soft breeze

Standing high on the brick wall next door

His smile flashing across the lonely lane

Melting with every evil sun

She cries no more

Tears have just dried off in her sunken eyes

He fought for his country

But...

She for his land

The only hope for an unborn child

A brave son of a great mother blinks no more

For him... the day had ended

And those did drill the flesh of many foes

Defeating all with a wider hope for a better future

But she sacrificed a lot and he ...

Just his life... his soul

Fertilizing the rich soils of a single nation

When the departure of war is celebrated

Welcoming a new era of hope

But those who lost at war

And those who sacrificed their lives

Giving us air to breathe

Are never to be forgotten

Their the true heroes

That lies in the depth of every Sri Lankans heart...
