Canagaretnam re-elected member of Central Board of FIBA (Asia
Region)
BASKETBALL: Retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Ignatius
Canagaretnam, Vice President of the Sri Lanka Basketball Federation was
re-elected as a member of the Federation of FIBA Asia International
Basketball Amateur (Asian Region) at the congress held at the Holiday
Inn Hotel in Kuwait recently.
A total of 33 countries participated out of the 44 in the region.
Canagaretnam who has been a member of the Central Board continuously
since the year 1984 was re elected unanimously.
Canagaretnam was the President of the Sri Lanka Basketball Federation
from 1994 to 1998 and was the vice president since 1998. He is also the
senior vice president of the South Asian Basketball Association and is
the first Sri Lankan to serve in the Asian body since 1994.
Canagaretnam was also awarded the 'Special Recognition Award' at a
ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in recognition of his
contribution to the Asian Basketball Confederation since the year 1995.
