Second half rally helps Sampath Bank

BASKETBALL: Sampath Bank produced a superb second half rally to beat Dialog Telekom by 62 points to 51 points in their Ram Ratnavale memorial mercantile basketball tournament 'A' division fixture played at the Otter Aquatic Club courts yesterday.

Sampath Bank were leading by just two points 30-28 at half time but came back strongly in the second half to turn the game in their favour with C. Danawansa (11), C. Ratnayake (16) and T. Chaturanga (14) leading the way. D. Rajapaksa (18) and A. Perera excelled for Dialog Telekom.

DFCC Bank easily

Meanwhile in the 'B' division tournament DFCC Bank cruised to an easy 82 points to 62 points victory over Akbar Brothers having led 56-25 at half time. C. de Alwis (28), R. Prabath (14) and G. Dissanayake (11) did the bulk of the scoring for DFCC Bank while T. Jayaratne (14), V. Pushpakumara (10) and M. Perera (10) figured in a vain attempt for Akbar Brothers.

Exciting win

In the 'C' division tournament Amana Takaful scored an exciting 35-34 win over Commercial Bank after leading 15-10 at half time. In the 'D' division tournament HSBC 'B' team outplayed City Group by 51 points to 18 points after leading 32-10 at half time while Eagle Insurance had the better of Aitken Spence 29-25 having led 17-0 at half time.
