COLOMBO: The South Asian Free Media Association - Sri Lanka chapter in a press release condemns the assassination of journalist Smapath Lakmal

The message: the Sri Lanka Chapter of the South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA) is shocked by the assassination of Journalist Sampath Lakmal de Silva, on July 2. We express our condolences to his relatives and loved ones.

As a body of journalists from all sectors of the mass media affiliated to the SAARC Regional Association of Media Professionals, SAFMA - Sri Lanka expresses its strong condemnation of this continuing murderous treatment of a cadre of Sri Lankan professional whose vocation is to keep Sri Lankan society informed about the problems and challenges it faces and about the needs and aspirations of its diverse peoples.

The SAFMA - Sri Lanka calls on all advocates of Democracy and Justice both in Sri Lanka, in the South Asian region, as well as in the global community to bring pressure to bear on the political authorities of the country to take tangible, sustained and credible action to investigate the assassination of Sampath Lakmal de Silva as well the other cases previously reported. The release said.
