Illicit liquor problem in Ellakkala

ELLAKKALA: Villagers near the second mile post in Ellakkala on Pasyala-Attanagalla road complain of a massive business of brewing kasippu without any disturbance.

A villager who was reluctant to divulge his identity said that the trade was conducted even on Vesak Poya day and on the Poson Poya day.

Although they informed certain authorities on those two sacred days no steps were taken to bring the culprits before law.

The business was run in a deserted land but the selling centre (tippola) was changed from place to place in the same land at least once a week.

The villagers say that no authority can claim they cannot find where the business was run since even the small children in the village know where it was.

The villagers are dismayed that the indecent behaviour of the drunks was affecting all aspects of their living including raising their children.
