POTTERY INDUSTRY: The Ministry of Rural Industries and Self
Employment Promotion will help to revive the pottery products
manufacturing industry in Palugama, Kurunegala. Production has ceased at
present due to the failure of required machinery and infrastructure
facilities.
Minister S.B. Nawinna on his tour to the village recently said that
the Ministry has provided financial assistance to restart the
production, which would benefit over 110 families engaged in this
industry in the village.
This village has been set up as a pottery products manufacturing
village in 2003 by the Ministry under its project of developing rural
villages as products manufacturing centres.
Nawinna said the developments have been completed at the first stage
and in the second stage Rs. 4.6 million will be invested by the Rural
Economic Resuscitation Trust Fund, which is under the Ministry.
"We have recognised their basic requirements for the pottery products
manufacturing and facilities such as machinery and technology will be
provided to families immediately to restart the business,"he said. It
will also develop all infrastructure facilities in the village.
The Rural Economic Resuscitation Trust Fund has provided Rs.3.4
million to develop a village, which manufactures wire products in
Makalanegama. |
