Zero tax affects local brown sugar industry
The local sugar industry is facing a serious
crisis with the decision by the Government to zero tax the import of
brown sugar. Sri Lanka spends around Rs. 12.5 billion annually for
the import of Sugar out of which Rs. 2.2 billion is for the import
of brown sugar.

Electricity Reforms Bill delayed
The presenting of the Electricity Reforms Bill
before the House has been indefinitely postponed due to continuous
opposition from trade unions of the Ceylon Electricity Board, Power
and Energy Minister John Seneviratne earlier said that he intended
to present the Bill to the Parliament this week.
