District level finalists found
Dialog sponsored President's Gold Cup-Volleyball

VOLLEYBALL: The finals of the District level matches of President's
Gold Cup-Volleyball Championship 2006 sponsored by the Dialog Telekom
was worked-off in 19 districts including Ampara and Trincomalee during
the weekend. Total of 430 Men and Women teams took part islandwide in
this tournament.
A record 44 teams contested in the Hambantota district and 55 teams
competed in Anuradhapura district preliminary rounds.
Suhada S.C. Pasgoda triumphed in Matara district finals against Lucky
S.C. Belliwatte (3/0) while Deniyaya S.C. winning the women's event
against Urubokka S.C. (3/0). Thotagamuwa S.C. and Sagara S.C. Bentota
entered the Men's finals in Galle district while Thotagamuwa S.C. became
winners in women's section beating Wijaya S.C. Gonapeenuwala (2/0).
Meanwhile Chaya S.C. Thalagaspitiya won against Ridigama S.C.(3/0) at
the Kurunegala district men's finals. Smart Shirts S.C. and Wattegama
S.C. entered the Men's final rounds easily in Kandy district while
Davians S.C. Kandy and Gamunu S.C. qualifying for women's finals.
Balares S.C. Boralasgamuwa and Eksath S.C. Mirihana qualified for the
men's finals at the Colombo District preliminary round matches. Central
S.C. Kolonnawa and Kapila S.C. Siyabalagoda entered the women's finals.
In addition Pussella S.C. became men's winner in Ratnapura district
while Madura Rantaru defeated Pragathi S.C.(3/0) to become the winners
in women's category.
Next the Provincial Level matches will commence on July 8. The
qualifying teams will then move to the National Level matches which will
be played at the Sugathadasa Stadium from July 16 to 24. |
