Sabaragamuwa University to hold int'l scholastic seminar
BELIHULOYA: The Sri Lanka Sabaragamuwa University has made
arrangements to hold an International Scholastic Seminar to mark the
10th Anniversary since its inauguration in 1996.
A committee under the Chairmanship of the University's first Vice
Chancellor Professor Dayananda Somasundera has been appointed to hold
the Seminar under five main themes involving problems and challenges
that have to be faced in the course of the 21st century.
Agriculture and Natural Resources; Computer Technology, Geology and
Engineering; Management Sciences, Applied Sciences including Chemistry
and Physics; Social Sciences and Anthropology are the five themes of the
proposed seminar.
According to Professor Dayananda Somasundera, around 500 entries have
been received from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Singapore, Thailand,
Indonesia, China, Japan, Iran, Belgium and Germany and that scholars
from various institutions and different fields including Universities,
Researchers, Bankers and private institutions are among those who intend
to participate. About 500 local academics and about 100 foreign
academics are expected to participate at this seminar.
Arrangements have been made to commence the Seminar on July 04 at the
Sabaragamuwa University Complex and continue till the forenoon of July
08. The inauguration will take place under the auspices of Education
Minister Susil Premajayantha at the Sabaragamuwa University Auditorium
on July 04 at 10.00 a.m.
The Keynote address will be delivered by Professor K. Mohandas, the
President of the Commonwealth University Vice Chancellors' Association.
The closing session will be conducted at the University Auditorium
under the patronage of Gamini Samaranayaka, Chairman of the University
Grants Commission on July 08 at 10.00 a.m. |
