Rs 100m to install 750 telephone booths

COLOMBO: A sum of Rs 100 million has been allocated to install 750 telephone booths island wide announced Posts and Telecommunications Minister D.M. Jayaratne yesterday.

The Postal and Telecommunication Department has already installed 360 telephone booths in Colombo, Kotte, Nugegoda, Maharagama, Homagama, Kaluthara, Panadura, Galle, Negombo, Katunayake and Kurunagela.

New booths will enable to make calls using both cards and pre-paid cards and the cards valuing from 50 cents to Rs 10 can be used in the new booths.

SLT Passport and Maxtalk cards can also be used in these booths to make calls. The booths are inter connected to the police emergency services and in case of an emergency the Police can be contacted on 118 or 119.

Complains can be made on 1241 and bill inquiries can be made on 1242. Calls to above lines will be free of charge.
