 Workers attempt to clean up a spill of toxic coal tar in the Dasha river in China’s northern Shanxi province June 15. Chinese authorities were using cotton batting, sponge, straw and activated carbon to try to soak up the spill after a truck carrying 60 tons of toxic coal tar fell into the river. Cleanup crews were scrambling to absorb the toxic substance before it reaches the Wangkuai Reservoir of Baoding, a city of about 10 million people, 70 kilometers away. (AP)
