Security strengthened in Colombo

COLOMBO: Security in the Colombo city has been strengthened.
Military Spokesman Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe urged the public to
be alert and help the Military, Police and Security Forces to help nab
trouble-makers.
"We want the public to cooperate with us and contact us if there is
any suspicious individual or activity in their neighbourhood. Eleven
telephone numbers have been set up for the public to tip-off," he said.
Meanwhile, a soldier was killed when a land mine operated by a remote
control exploded at Wandaramulla-Batticaloa yesterday around 12.20 p.m.
Meanwhile, soldiers recovered two motor vehicle batteries and two
bags filled with explosives in Omanthai-Vavuniya West yesterday noon.
The explosives targeting the soldiers were hidden under the bridge,
Army sources said. The explosives weighed 60kg. |
