Royal clinch under 14 and 16 rugby titles
RUGBY: Royal College under 14 and 16 stamped their supremacy with
fine displayes in the Segment 'A' & 'B' in the Schools Rugby Tournament,
conducted by the Western Province Schools Rugby Football Union (WPRFU)
which was held on May 25th at Zahira College and on 26th at Havelock
Park respectively.
Royal Under 14 in segement 'B' led by Rukshan Fernando played
admirably to overcome the favourite Isipathana 5 points (1 try) to nil,
while the Royal Under 16 in Segment 'A' led by Dammika Attygalle played
a magnificent game to beat the fancied St'Peter's College Colombo 4 by
14 points (2 goals) to nil.
The try scorer for U/14 was centre three quarter Isuru, while for
under 16 the try scorers were skipper Dammika Attygalle and Yudith
Karunaratne and both tries were converted by the skipper. The youngest
in the under 14 'B' segment was Arshad Jamaldeen who is following in his
father Nizam Jamaldeen's footstep.
The final of under 16 was worked off at the Havelock Park and more
than 30 teams from leading schools took part in the tournament.
The chief guest was K.D. Punniyadasa (Principal Isipathana College
and President WPSRFU). The final was refereed by B.R.I. Somaratna.

Cup - Royal College beat St'Peter's College 14 points to nil.
Plate - Thurstan College beat Science College 10 points to nil.
Bowl - Wesley beat Ananda College 15 points to 5.
Shield - St'Thoma's College beat Piliyandala MMV 33 points to nil.

Cup - Royal College beat Isipathana College 5 points to nil.
Plates - S.de Jayasingha (Dehiwela) beat Tissa 12 points to 5.
Bowl - Wesley College beat Harischandra College (Negombo) 14 points
