Kalu Ganga Water Supply Project nearing completion

BULATHSINHALA: Stage one of the Kalu Ganga Water Supply Project which
was started in January 2004, by the Urban Development and Water Supply
Ministry with Japanese aid, is nearing completion.
The estimated cost of the Stage one of this project is Rs. 10,600
million. Under this project more than five lakhs of people residing in
Horana, Bandaragama, Panadura, Mt. Lavinia, Moratuwa and Colombo South
Region will receive pure drinking water.
According to the project, water from Kalu Ganga at Kandana, close to
Naragala Bridge is stored in a massive tank, purified and pumped to the
master storage tank put up at the summit of Ellakanda, Horana.
From there pure drinking water is distributed to the proposed areas.
Massive under ground pipelines from Horana, via Panadura upto Colombo
South Division have already been laid.
The contract for the construction of this project is awarded to China
Geo Company, and is supervised by the engineers of the Water Supply and
Drainage board.
The stage one of the Project is to be completed before the end of
2006.
An engineer attached to the project at Kandana site told the Daily
News that from the new water supply project, water can be supplied to
the consumers by the end of June 2006.
In addition steps have been taken to supply water to people of
Kandana, Bellpitiya, Remuna and Dikhena areas who also face with the
problem of pure drinking water. |
