Rs. 120m cold room for Weerawila Economic Centre

COLD ROOM: Increasing local and foreign investment towards the
development of the local agriculture, U.B Holding Private Ltd in Sri
Lanka and the WOORISU Ltd in Korea have invested Rs. 120 million to set
up a cold room in the Weerawila Economic Center.
According to a request by the Agricultural Development Minister
Chamal Rajapakse, WOORISU Ltd Korea has tied up with Sri Lanka to
promote local crops in the international market.
The Minister said this would help increase farmers' income in the
area. This will target to reach for total fruits and vegetables' exports
to Rs.2000 million within the next five years which is now Rs.1400
million.
The cold room has facility of reservation for 100 tones of vegetables
and fruits at the moment. He said this is a good opportunity to farmers
to store their crops protecting its quality which will minimise wastage.
Farmers who are in Weerawila, Pannegamuwa, Tissamaharama, Hambantota,
Ambalantota, Wellawaya, and Thanamalwila will be able to bargain for a
good prices.
These two companies will export fruits and vegetables to Singapore,
Malaysia, and Thailand.
