President committed to peace - NCP Governor

Anuradhapura: Since President Mahinda Rajapaksa is continuing to pursue the peace process with determination despite continuous provocations made by the LTTE terrorists, flames will be totally doused in this country soon, said NCP Governor Dr. Jagath Balasuriya.

He was addressing a joint meeting of voluntary service organisations at Buddagaya Mawatha, Anuradhapura recently. Balasuriya said there was no enmity, hatred, jealousy or revenge involved in Mahinda Chinthanaya which was based on love towards all humanity.

As such there was no alternative to the Mahinda Chinthanaya in finding a lasting solution to the ethnic conflict in this country. He said despite being one of the largest provinces in the country as regards its area of authority the NCP was one of the two poorest and undeveloped provinces in the country.

People in the province should especially keep this in mind when taking important decisions regarding their future. Although the largest share of financial allocations made by the Central Government and the Provincial Council went for educational development, there was a very low tendency in realising benefits from it.

Ven. Telhitiyawe Dhammaratana Thera of the Anagarika Dharmapala Bauddha Madyasthanaya was among those present.
