Communist party praises Tamil Nadu voters
COLOMBO: Communist Party of Sri Lanka on the result of the
State Assembly Election in India has praised the decision made by the
people of Tamil Nadu in electing the DMK led alliance and forcing the
pro-LTTE parties to take a back seat.
Minister of Constitutional Affairs and National Integration and the
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka, Dew Gunasekera's
statement:
The Communist Party of Sri Lanka sends its heartiest congratulations
to the two Communist Parties - Communist Party of India (Marxist) and
Communist Party of India and also their allies in the Left Alliance on
their resounding victories at the recent State Assembly Election in West
Bengal and Kerala and their enhanced representation in other States.
The electoral result of the State Assembly Election in India clearly
demonstrates the increased strength and influence of the secular forces
in general and of the National Political Parties in particular. The
people of Tamil Nadu, in a broader perspective, have strengthened the
centre-state relations, given a decisive victory to the DMK led Alliance
and also ensured a stronger opposition - all in keeping with democratic
traditions.
The two main Dravidian Nationalist parties namely DMK and AIADMK who
have been ruling alternatively since 1967 with absolute majorities who
are now more moderate than ever have undoubtedly lost their hold on the
electorate making way for National and Secular Parties to emerge.
The pro- LTTE parties who are the adherents of Dravidian extremism
have been forced to take a back seat. This only shows that the
established social equation and geographical patterns of Tamil Nadu
politics are undergoing changes obviously dictated by the new realities
of faster economic and social development.
The left Democratic Front led by CPI (M) secured a significant
victory staging a comeback to power in Kerala.
In West bengal, the Left Front led by CPI (M) has been returned to
power for the seventh consecutive term marginalising the rival national,
as well as regional parties and securing for them an unprecedented
two-third majority.
The continued ideological offensive by the Left and radical forces
against the neo-liberal policies and the impact of the uninterrupted
performance of the Left Alliance in west Bengal for three decades
evidently has influenced the Indian voters's verdict favouring the
secular force in general and the Left in particular. |
