Station Master on the wrong track

COLOMBO: Railways, Transport, Petroleum and Petroleum Resources Development Minister A.H.M. Fowzie who paid a surprise visit to the Wattegama Railway Station yesterday morning found the Station Master missing after signing in for work.

Investigations revealed that the Station Master had gone home after signing the roster.

A Ministry press release said the Minister ordered railway officials present to initiate a disciplinary inquiry against the Station Master and discontinue him from service.

A large number of commuters awaiting trains complained to the Minister that many Colombo bound trains from Matale arrived at the Wattegama station more than half an hour late.

Fowzie ordered the authorities to take immediate steps to run trains on schedule.
