New fire suppression system at Fonterra plant
FIRE SYSTEM: Fonterra Brands Lanka, a fully owned subsidiary
of Fonterra Co-operative Group, has a new fire suppression system
installed at its Biyagama plant.
It will be opened by Minister of Agriculture Development Chamal
Rajapaksha.
During a risk assessment process a recommendation was made to install
a comprehensive automatic water sprinkler and gas flashing system in
both powder and local milk processing plants. The directors approved Rs.
23 million without any hesitation considering the protection it offers
to staff members and assets, Fonterra's Corporate Affairs Director,
Chetiya Sri Nammuni said.
The distribution density of water for square area was computed using
NFPA codes of USA and local regulations in keeping with Fonterra's
policy of being fully compliant with regulations of the country.
A separate overhead water tank of a capacity of 200,000 litres was
also built to ensure that adequate water will be available to meet any
major fire. The areas where, water is not recommended for fire
suppression, especially in electrical distribution areas and where high
tech machines are located, a total gas flushing system was introduced. |
