HEALTHCARE: Ceylinco Healthcare Services Ltd., (CHSL) set up an ultra
modern cancer treatment unit in Sri Lanka.
The new treatment unit in Colombo 2 will be the country's first
private cancer treatment facility, and will be the only centre equipped
with a Linear Accelerator (Linac) offering the most sophisticated and
safe radiotherapy available, the company said. CHSL Deputy Chairman R.
Renganathan headed a team of directors who signed the investment
agreement for the establishment of this unit at the Board of Investment
(BOI) recently.
Expected to be operational by May next year, the Ceylinco Cancer
Treatment Centre will be built next to the Ceylinco Healthcare Centre at
Park Street, which is the country's most advanced private standalone
facility for cancer screening and for information and advice on the
management and treatment of cancers.
The new centre will be equipped with the latest Linear Accelerator
used to produce mega voltage x-rays to treat deep-seated tumours with
Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), an HDR - Brachytherapy
unit, CT Simulator, a sophisticated Treatment Planning Computer and a C
ARM X Ray Unit.
Besides radiation therapy, the new centre will offer radioactive
iodine treatment for thyroid cancer, Brachytherapy, a means by which
radiotherapy is given directly to the site of the cancer using various
applicators to insert the radioactive source from the machine to the
cancerous tissue. |
