Sri Lanka bowled out for 179: England 'A' 30/1

CRICKET: Sri Lanka who won the toss and elected to bat were bowled out for 179 in their first innings on the first day of their four day game against England 'A' in Worcester yesterday. Lankans failed to get to a good start as they lost both openers early with the scoreboard reading only 9 runs.

Within a space of 35 three more wickets fell leaving Sri Lanka in trouble at 44/5. A seventy six run partnership for the sixth wicket brought some respectability to the Lankan score 120/6. Lankans lost the last four wickets for the addition of only 59 runs.

T.M. Dilshan was the top scorer for the Lankans while Chamara Kapugedera chipped in with 36.

For England 'A' it was opening bowler Lewis who made good use of the wicket to the maximum to end the day with a haul of six wickets giving away 49 runs from 15 overs.

At the time of going to press England too were in a sorry state when Vaas struck the first blow taking the wicket of Cook for no score.
