COLOMBO: Seven suspected LTTE cadres travelling in two threewheelers
after launching a hand grenade attack on Security Forces at a military
checkpoint near Nelliadi were killed yesterday as the hand grenades
inside the threewheelers exploded when the Army fired at them, Military
sources said.
According to sources, two soldiers at the Nelliadi Army detachment
were injured when a hand grenade lobbed at the Army detachment by
suspected LTTE cadres travelling in these two threewheelers around 2.30
p.m. yesterday exploded.
The Security Forces on being informed of the attack blocked the two
fleeing threewheelers at Navindil camp and fired at them.
"A huge explosion inside the second threewheeler killed on seven LTTE
cadres", a senior military official told the Daily News. Meanwhile,
Security Forces in Chavakachcheri recovered claymore mine weighing 10
kilograms set to target Security Forces in Chavakachcheri, sources
added.
Two homeguards were killed and two others injured when the LTTE
detonated a cluster of claymore mines in Aranthalawa yesterday morning,
sources added. |
