Bhakthi Gee recitals during Amadahara

COLOMBO: Several Bhakthi Gee recitals will be held in the Amadahara Zone throughout the Vesak Zone.

ANCL is organising Amadahara, with Orange Electric as the main sponsor, in the area surrounding Lake House.

The ANCL staffers will present a Bhkathi Gee (devotional songs) performance in front of Lake House on Vesak Day. Several other organisations in the area will also hold separate Bhakthi Gee recitals. Three stage plays with Buddhist themes will also be staged on May 12, 13 and 14 in front of Regal Cinema.

Several Danselas will also be held within the Amadahara Zone.

A large number of State and private sector institutions have already extended their fullest cooperation to ANCL to conduct this year's Amadahara Vesak celebrations on a grand scale. Attractive cash prizes will be offered to ANCL Vesak lantern competition winners.

The winner will receive a cash prize of Rs. 150,000 and the second Rs. 100,000. A cash prize of Rs. 75,000 will be offered for the third place. The fourth prize is Rs. 50,000 and the fifth prize is Rs. 25,000. Winners from place six to 10th place will also be offered Rs. 10,000 each.

The Amadahara Vesak Zone will cover a vast area in Colombo with ANCL as the centrepiece of the celebrations and Sri Sambuddhaloka Vihara. The Vesak zone covers an area extending to the Gamini Cinema Hall, Colombo Harbour, Galle Face, Fort Railway Station and Technical Junction.

Five roads - D.R. Wijewardene Mawatha, Chiththampalam A. Gardiner Mawatha, Olcott Mawatha, Chatham Street and Galle road up to Galle Face roundabout within the zone will be illuminated during the three days of the festival.
