Buddha Pradeepa - Daily News Vesak Annual

COLOMBO: Two Vesak Annuals by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd. Buddha Pradeepa - Daily News Vesak Annual and Dinamina Vesak Kalapaya were launched yesterday at Sambuddhaloka Viharaya, Lotus Road, Colombo.

Cultural and National Heritage Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene was the chief guest. Chancellor, University of Kelaniya, Head of Peliyagoda Vidyalankara Pirivena and Chief Sangha Nayaka of two districts Colombo and Chilaw, Ven. Velamitiyave Kusaladhamma Thera and Ven. Professor Dhammavihari, Chief Editor of the Buddhist Encyclopaedia delivered Anusasanas.

The invitees were received by Chairman, ANCL Dr. Sunil Jayasekera, while Director/Editorial of ANCL Karunaratne Paranavitana explained the meeting's objective. Daily News Vesak Annual 2006 comes out after a long lapse - the first Vesak Annual was published in 1934 and continued upto 1962.

Buddha Pradeepa carries 30 articles on a variety of Buddhist themes, written by erudite Buddhist monks, Buddhist scholars and lay scholars.

Among them are Ven. Prof. Dhammavihari, Ven. Dr. Deegalle Mahinda, Ven. S. Dhammika, Prof. Asanga Tilakaratne, Prof. Oliver Abeynayake, Prof. Nandasena Ratnapala, Prof. Ven. Bellanwila Wimalaratane, Dr. K.D. Paranavitana, Eileen Siriwardene, Sumana Saparamadu and Padma Edirisinghe.
