LTTE has decided to disrupt peace talks - Anandasangaree

COLOMBO: TULF leader V. Anandasangaree yesterday condemned the attempt made by a suicide bomber to assassinate Army Commander Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka.

"There is no doubt that this dastardly act had been engineered by the LTTE although as usual they may put the blame on the People's Force. There is no such force in any put the blame North or East. The People's force is one of the many faces of the LTTE. It is now very clear that the LTTE has decided to disrupt the Peace Talks about which they were never serious," Anandasangaree said.

They are only trying to take the mean advantage of the present situations and using this opportunity to strengthen their position. It can't hoodwink the people and the International Community, he said. Anandasangaree said: "I take this opportunity to appeal to the Sinhala People and the Forces to show restraint without getting provoked and fall into the LTTEs trap. The LTTE that has now become so weak, wants a communal riot to save their faces. The interpretation of the LTTE is the LTTE massacring the people is a brave deed and any retaliations as the work of the Sinhala thugs. The country must realise that the Tamils of the North and the East who had settled among the Sinhalese are those who wanted to run away from the LTTE and living like brothers with the Sinhalese and the Forces in particular must show restraint and treat the Tamils who live with them with sympathy and protect them. I appeal to every Local Leaders in the South to take my advice seriously and not fall into the trap of the LTTE. The LTTE is fighting a war with the Government. What moral right do they have to demand Helicopter rides for its cadres from the East to the North. If there is no safe passage for them the best thing for them to do is to give up the Eastern Province without harassing the people."
