Venezuela, Germany bag Global Holcim Award

AWARDS: The Global Holcim Award for the best sustainable
construction projects was bagged by Venezuela and Germany jointly for an
urban integration project and the design for a new main railway station
respectively. USD one million in prize money was awarded to the joint
winners of the gold award at a ceremony held in Bangkok yesterday.
The Silver award and Bronze award went to Italy and Canada for a
water power renewal strategy and greening the infrastructure at Benny
Farm, Montreal.
Winners of the competitions held in five regions, Europe, North
America, Latin America, Africa Middle East and Asia Pacific participated
in the award ceremony. The competition for the Asia Pacific region was
held in Bejing in September 2005.
Meanwhile, entries for the next Holcim Award Ceremony will open in
mid 2007.
Managing Director Holcim Sri Lanka, Peter Spirig said Holcim will
organise an awards ceremony to select the best sustainable construction
project in Sri Lanka in August this year and said Sri Lankan architects,
engineers and contractors are encouraged to participate in this event,
so that Sri Lanka also would be eligible to enter the next regional
competition. |
