Proscribe the LTTE - JHU

COLOMBO: The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) General Secretary Ven. Omalpe Sobhitha Thera has urged President Mahinda Rajapaksa to take necessary steps immediately to withdraw from the Ceasefire Agreement which the LTTE disregard and proscribe the LTTE which claimed the lives of nearly 40 security personnel within the last one week, JHU made this appeal in a statement on Tuesday.

The escalation of violence against security forces and civilians in callous disregard to the pledges made at the 1st round of Ceasefire talks in Geneva is a clear indication of the LTTE's repulsion of a peaceful solution, the JHU media release pointed out.

It is ridiculous for a responsible Government to hope for a walk of any length for the sake of peace when the LTTE is resorting to a belligerent course of incessant brutalities of this magnitude to achieve their target.

It is also a betrayal of the people's mandate given at the last Presidential Election and a negation of the dignity of our armed forces. The present conduct of the Government, as far as the peace efforts are concerned, seriously endangers the security of the country and the nation, the media release emphasised.

The JHU media release, under these circumstances, called upon the Government and the entire peace-loving masses countrywide to unite as one single force and array themselves to rise against war hungry terrorist politics.
