Fund raiser for Cancer hospital
COLOMBO: The Wold Fellowship of Buddhist Women (Sri Lanka) plans to
donate much needed medical equipment to the children's ward of the
Cancer Hospital, Maharagama in commemoration of the 2550th Buddha
Jayanthi.
Funds for the project will be raised by staging two plays; Nari Bena
and Jasaya Saha Lenchina, at Tower Hall, Maradana, on May 5, at 3.30
p.m. and 6.30 p.m.

Super Stars in Negombo
NEGOMBO:The Super Stars who have captured the hearts of millions of
Sri Lankans from every nook and corner of the country will come alive in
Negombo when they perform at the indoor stadium of Maris Stella College,
on April 28 at 6.30 p.m.
The event is organised by the Old Boys' Association of Maris Stella
College, Negombo, to raise funds for the proposed Junior Computer Lab
for the school as one of their projects. This is the first time that the
Super Stars perform together in Negombo.
Service awards
YAKKALA:The annual service awards ceremony of the Ranaviru Apparels
Garment Factory, Yakkala maintained by the Directorate of Army
Rehabilitation will be held at the factory premises on April 22 at 7
p.m. Army Commander Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka will be the chief guest.
Special Award for Dr. Rohini Jayaratne
COLOMBO:The International Research Woman of the Year Board based in
USA has awarded the commemorative Gold Medal Woman of the Year two
thousand and six to Dr. Rohini Jayaratne who was named Woman of the year
two thousand and two earlier.
She will be presented the Gold Medal Woman of the Year Two Thousand
and Six at a Ceremony to be held shortly by the INTL, Woman of the Year
Board and American Biographical Institute USA. New Year festival
COLOMBO: A Sinhala and Hindu New Year festival organised for the
first time by the Science and Technology Ministry on the directive of
Science and Technology Minister Professor Tissa Vitarana will be held at
the Agalawatte Mihindu Maha Vidyalaya sports ground on April 22.
All the staff of Vidatha Resource Centres in the Kalutara district
has arranged to make this day a splendid one by including many items
such as bicycle race, traditional sports activities, Vidatha Avurudu
Kumari, science magic shows and exhibitions.
Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickremanayake and Minister Professor Tissa
Vitarana will be chief guests.
Felicitation ceremony

COLOMBO: The Jayasunderaramaya of Hondella along the
Polgahawela-Kandy Road will be the venue of felicitation for 100 old and
poor fathers who will receive gifts and pharmaceuticals on Sunday, April
23 at 2 p.m.
The occasion is organised by Sunethra Weerasinghe, the caretaker of
Suhada Nivasa, Madiwela, Kotte, Sasara Rehabilitation Centre, Gothatuwa
and Sambodhi Niwasaya, Lunuwila.
It is conducted under the guidance of Ven. Dalupothegedera Medhanka
Thera, the Viharadhikari of Hondella and with the participation of
Dayakasabha of the Satharaperuwa.
Arrangements have been made to escort the 100 fathers in a procession
and assemble them at a fixed place in the temple premises where they
will receive trays of offerings to the Triple Gem. They will be blessed
with "Pirith Chanting" and will be served with refreshments.
Then they will receive trays of gifts including milk-powder, fruits,
pharmaceutical, national dresses made of white clothes, dry rations,
soap, pillow cases, rubber slippers, tooth-paste and walking sticks. |
