Nuwara Eliya road races on April 23

MOTOR RACING: A total of 19 events for motor cars and motor cycles including four Federations of Motor Cycles Sports in Sri Lanka championship will be worked off at the Singer Sri Lanka Nuwara Eliya Road Races organised by the Sri Lanka Motorcycle Club in association with the Nuwara Eliya Motor Racing Club which will be worked off at the Nuwara Eliya circuit on April 23 (Sunday) commencing at 8 a.m. The official practices for grid positions will be held on Saturday, April 22 at 1 p.m.

Of the 19 events which are scheduled to be worked, twelve will be motorcycles and seven for motor cars. Four of the motorcycle events will be for FMSSL Championship 2006 and they are: Group O: Standard motorcycles 125 cc (two stroke) single cylinder. 175 cc to 250 cc (four stroke) two cylinder.

Standard: 250 cc (two stroke) two cylinder. 290 cc to 450 cc (four stroke) four cylinder.

Standard: 250 cc (four stroke) four cylinder.

Group R - Racing: 125 cc (two stroke). 175 cc to 250 cc (four stroke) four cylinder.

In the past this Road Race conducted during the Nuwara Eliya Festivities seasons has attracted very large crowds and has provided the motor racing fans with a lot of thrills and spills.

The entries will be received by the Secretary, Sri Lanka Motorcycle Club, C/o Asian Motors (Pvt) Limited, 482, T. B. Jayah Mawatha, Colombo 10, Telephone: 011-2699168. Fax: 011-2699158.

The competition rules states that a minimum of five entries are required to schedule an event and a minimum of five starters are required to run an event. If there are insufficient entries for an event to be scheduled, the competitors in that particular event will be permitted to run in the next higher class.

Entries are restricted to ten competitors for an event and if in excess the best timing returned on the Practice Day will be taken into account for motor cars.

In the past riders like Dilantha Malagamuwa, Vikum Ranjith, Sarath Kumarasinghe, Riley Wanigasekera, Johnny Daniel, Shafraz Junaid, W. M. Gunasinghe, Indika Gurusinghe, Shane Silva, Rohana Jayaratne, Ramal Pathiratne, just to name a few have thrilled the crowds.

The events for motor cars has seen the likes of Rohith de Silva, Thusith de Silva, Nilanga Dela Bandara, Hafiz Cader, Dinesh Senanayake, Shantha Surawera, Tharindu Lokuge, Susantha Gunawardena, Yoga Perera, Upulwan Serasinghe, Dhammika Peiris, Mahen Thambiah, Prasanna de Alwis, Rajeewa Abeywardena, Dhanushka Mudalige, and Rohan de Silva burn the tracks providing the thrills to the motor racing enthusiasts. Most of them are likely to participate this year too.
