APPERAL EXPORTS
Sri Lanka recorded Rs. 638 billion in export earnings surpassing the internal target Rs. 600 billion set for last year. The sector that contributed to the highest share to Sri Lankan exports were Garments and Textiles which contributed at 45.5 per cent. In 2003, the sector contributed Rs. 247 billion and in 2004 it grew by a mammoth 14 per cent to Rs. 284 billion. Overall exports of garments have grown into the US market grew by 6.2 per cent to US$ 1745.6 million.

Investor confidence high after polls results

The Business community, stock market analysts and the Chambers hailed the results of the recently concluded local government elections. They said that this landslide victory for the government is a clear indication that the people have once again endorsed the Mahinda Chinthana policies even with a bigger majority.
