'UPFA's victory shows clear conscience of people'
COLOMBO: UPFA's victory at the Local Government polls manifests the
clear conscience of the people whose democratic rights have usurped,
said Local Government and Provincial Councils Minister Janaka Bandara
Thennakoon, in a release. He expressed his hearty cheers over the United
People's Freedom Alliance's victory at the Local Government Elections.
The victory is a decisive beginning of a new era which ensures
people's welfare, he said. It is a reaffirmation of the people's
confidence in the Mahinda Chintanaya in defiance of criticism, protests
and conspiratorial acts of sabotage levelled against it, the media
release said.
This success which was achieved within a short span of time such as
three months since he assumed duties as President became possible
because President Mahinda Rajapaksa is different from politicians who
rejoiced over victories too long. As a leader the President began to
keep up his election promises.
His was a clear vision with proper understanding of the reality that
the development process should begin from the grass roots level. He is
determined to re-awaken the village life, to uplift the country, the
release said. The UNP's victory of the 2002 Local Government Polls was a
farce and a deception of the masses but the UPFA's victory in 2006 is a
historical triumph manifesting the clear conscience of the people whose
democratic rights were usurped.
We grasp this victory with outstretched arms and pledge to serve the
people at the risk of our lives, assured the Minister. |
